Simon Creek Winery Receives Prestigious Awards
Simon Creek Vineyard and Winery had been notified that it is an award winner in this years American Wine Society Commercial Wine Competition, which was held this past November 12-13 in Greenwich, Connecticut.
Simon Creek received separate Silver Medals for their:
- American Gewurztraminer
- Untouchable Red American Ruby Cabernet wines
This year’s American Wine Society Competition was entered by 199 wineries entering 1090 wines. The competition is one of the most prestigious in the U.S. Simon Creek’s American Gewürztraminer is a pleasant semi-sweet wine – produced in the image of fine German wines. It is a versatile wine, featuring a pleasant balance of spice (gewurz in German) and a pleasing sweet taste, which can be served before, during or after dinner. The wine has been extremely popular and is the winery’s best selling white variety.
Based on a blend of American Ruby Cabernet wine, “Untouchable Red” has a deep red color and a medium dry taste. The name is based upon a legend that in the late 1920s a famous Chicago gangster and his lawyer tried to “persuade” Chris Simon to sell him the Simon farm; now the location of Simon Creek Vineyard and Winery. Mr. Simon, like the brave “G-Man” of the time, could not be persuaded and was “untouched” by the offer.
The wine has quickly become Simon Creek’s most popular.Simon Creek is the most modern winery and largest vineyard (30 acres) in Wisconsin. The state of the art winery is one of the most technologically advanced in the U.S. The 11,000 square feet winery has a capacity of producing over 15,000 cases of the finest quality wines each year. The winery features the most modern equipment available, to include: 26,000 gallons of stainless steel storage and fermentation tanks, and a bottling line capable of filling, corking, labeling and placing foil caps on bottles at an astounding rate of 25 bottles per minute. The winery presently vints, cellars and bottles eight varieties: Merlot, Cabernet Franc, “Untouchable Red”, Gewürztraminer, Chardonnay, Golden Muscat, Door County Cherry and Port (also called Jacksonport) wines. Next year 4 additional wines, to include a sweeter red and drier white, will be added to the inventory. The wines are priced at $8.00 to $15.00 per bottle. Simon Creek proudly offers complimentary tasting of all wines and free-guided tours of the complete winemaking process.
